What A Day!

**Note: Post Date is July 9, 2009**

Twenty kayaks on the open sea, sailing around a large island. The sun shining, the waves consistently steady and calm, and the breeze just right. Erika is in the front, I’m in the back and what a team we are! Surprisingly Erika’s scrawny arms held up pretty well. She was a great partner this afternoon on our kayak adventure. A.B.A. is at it again! The crew was all ready to go! The day couldn’t have gotten better. We made a stop at a cave where we rested and had some sandwiches for lunch. There we snorkeled in the clear, warm water, just having a ball with each other. I looked up in the sky at the sun that sparkled along the sea, there’s parasailing in the distance, beautiful homes along the coast and us. We were all in complete amazement of our lives at that moment.

Of course there were some bumps along the way. The beaches here are mostly made of rocks, which is nice because you don’t have to worry about the annoyance of sand, but  the rocks aren’t quite pleasant on our feet. I brought flip flops though. (I think I‘ve grown accustom to flip flops.) Also Kayaking is hard work. I need to go to the gym a bit more. It took a lot out of us, especially Becca who’s sugar was a little low and got a little sick. Poor Becca. She is feeling a lot better now, but it was still unfortunate, for she is such a lively part of our collective. Along the way we rowed past a nude beach. It was with all different levels consisting of men and women who were not ashamed. I was ashamed for them, their bodies were not something to flaunt. It was sure a sight to see. I’m sure my Step-Grandfather would have had a laugh at the sight of these people. I sure did.

“I wanna catch the action,” Erika says as she stops rowing. On our way back a squirm of teenagers who were swimming in the ocean decided to hang on to some of our kayaks. They were a bunch of pests. I didn’t want them to come any where near our kayak so I kept urging Erika to paddle but she, being the ditz that she is, wanted the closer look. At last our guide scared the little brats away. On Saturday, after we are gone, there is going to be a cliff diving contest. We were all bummed that we were going to miss it, but luckily on our return we saw a couple of the contestants practicing for the big show down. He was free falling for 6 seconds. It was quite a jump and we were all excited to catch a glimpse of the action.

I can’t properly express the happiness that was shining on our faces this afternoon. All sticky and salty, but we still agreed that it was the best day thus far; a blissful one, an adventurous one, a loving one, a great one. I’m going to miss it.

As we paddled back I sat there with Erika in awe that we aren’t even close to being done. If today was the last day of our voyage, I would be completely content, but it’s not. We still have so much to look forward to. Six more weeks of a life-changing adventure. I can only imagine what’s next. For now, I’m good. No I’m fantastic!

Good Night Loves.
